Flowers and leaves convey sentiments. Artistic charm wafts fragrance. Foreign teachers experience Chinese intangible cultural heritage plant rubbing activity.
Recently, at the North Campus’s basketball court, the fragrance of flowers mingled with laughter as a unique plant rubbing workshop unfolded in a warm atmosphere, organized by the ‘Shang Xing Youth Palace’ and the ‘Cultural Exchange Association.’ Stepping out of the classroom and into nature, teachers and students used simple tools to capture the textures and colors of flowers and plants onto fabric. Through hands-on practice, they experienced the beauty of nature and the unique charm of cross-cultural art.
Plant rubbing is a time-honored intangible cultural heritage technique in China. Using natural flowers and leaves as materials, it transfers the plants' forms, textures, and colors onto a medium through physical pounding. This craft not only embodies ancient reverence and love for nature but also carries simple environmental values and aesthetic wisdom, making it a classic project within intangible cultural heritage that combines both visual appeal and hands-on practice. This event used plant rubbing as a bridge, allowing foreign teachers to engage closely with Chinese intangible cultural heritage and experience the vibrant vitality of traditional culture.
Our college consistently emphasizes integrating cross-cultural education with practical activities. This botanical printing event not only provided a platform for faculty and students to connect with nature and unleash creativity but also enhanced participants' English communication skills while experiencing the collision and fusion of Chinese and Western cultures. Moving forward, the college will launch more diverse cross-cultural practical activities to foster students' well-rounded development and cultivate globally-minded youth for the new era.
