News from this website (IECO Office, Li Qinqin) On 14 March, at the invitation of our partner institution, the University of Saint Joseph in Macao, our university organised a group of 13 students to visit the Qingzhou Campus of the University of Saint Joseph in Macao to participate in the ‘2026 University of Saint Joseph International Cultural Carnival’, immersing themselves in the unique charm of multicultural fusion.

Upon arrival, our students, accompanied by staff and students from the University of Saint Joseph, toured the campus, visiting the swimming pool, basketball court, classrooms and rooftop garden in turn. The campus’s architectural style, blending Chinese and Western elements, and its beautiful green spaces left a deep impression on the students. During the tour, everyone not only felt the University of Saint Joseph’s strong academic atmosphere but also appreciated the blend of humanistic care and creative ingenuity within the campus environment.

Following the campus tour, the International Cultural Carnival officially commenced.The opening ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of guests, including Tan Zhaohua, Director of the Higher Education Cooperation and Exchange Division of the Macao Special Administrative Region’s Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Edna, Consul General of the Philippines in Macao; Muaqu, Consul General of Mozambique in Macao; and Zhang Jianfeng, Head of the Juvenile Affairs Section of the Community Policing and Public Relations Division of the Macao Special Administrative Region’s Judiciary Police, alongside representatives from various sectors of society. Su Huidao, Acting President of St. Joseph’s University, presided over the ceremony.

In his address, Acting Rector Su Huidao stated that the University of Saint Joseph is committed to creating an immersive international learning environment, aiming to enable students from around the world to learn from one another through daily interaction, and to cultivate empathy, adaptability, and a mindset that respects and embraces diverse cultures and values. The university hopes that this platform will enhance public understanding of the institution and provide students with opportunities for face-to-face interaction with professors and fellow students.

Subsequently, a procession of staff and students from various countries and regions, each holding the flag of their respective nation or territory, kicked off the carnival. The colourful flags fluttered in the breeze across the campus, symbolising the convergence and integration of diverse cultures, and bringing the atmosphere to a fever pitch.

A rich programme of cultural performances was also arranged at the event. A spectacular lion dance performance took centre stage, followed by a series of passionate and exuberant dance and singing performances by several international lecturers. Their infectious energy drew waves of applause and cheers from the assembled staff and students, creating a vibrant and electric atmosphere.

    

Carnival Opening Ceremony Performances

The carnival attracted a large number of students and alumni. Over thirty cultural stalls were set up on site, showcasing the distinctive cultures of various countries. The information points for each faculty and programme were bustling with people, with many visitors stopping to learn about course content and career prospects.The food and cultural stalls covered mainland China, Macao, as well as Portugal, Brazil, the Philippines, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, East Timor, Myanmar, South Korea, Russia and many other countries and regions. Student representatives from various nations prepared traditional dishes on the spot and organised fun interactive games, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the diversity of world cultures.Our staff and students mingled amongst the stalls, engaging in friendly exchanges with students from various countries and regions, sampling authentic snacks, and experiencing traditional handicrafts, all whilst savouring the charm of cultural fusion in a relaxed atmosphere.

    

Cultural Stalls from Around the World

Students who took part in the event unanimously described the visit to St Joseph’s University as an unforgettable cultural experience. Through campus tours, exchanges with local students, carnival activities and cultural performances, they not only broadened their international horizons but also deepened their understanding of and appreciation for cultural diversity. The students expressed their intention to bring these insights back to PeiZheng College and continue their journey of cultural exchange and exploration.

This exchange visit to Macao has not only enabled our students to broaden their horizons and gain new insights in an international setting, but has also further strengthened the friendship between the two institutions, laying a solid foundation for more diverse and in-depth inter-school cooperation in the future.
