1. About US

The School of Data Science and Computer Science was established in 2019, formerly known as the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. For over 20 years, it has cultivated more than 8,000 IT professionals for society. The school currently offers seven undergraduate programs: Computer Science and Technology, Network Engineering, Digital Media Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Internet of Things Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. The school has a strong teaching staff, with a highly qualified team of 108 professional teachers (including 8 professors, 31 associate professors and teachers with senior professional titles, and 5 PhDs), and over 97% of the teachers hold a master's degree or higher. Currently, there are 2,856 students enrolled.


 


2. Teaching Management

The school adheres to the principle of fostering virtue through education, upholding the principles of student-centeredness, outcome-orientation, and continuous improvement, and implements standardized and meticulous teaching management. It coordinates professional development, talent training programs, daily teaching operations, examination administration, and curriculum reform, and improves the teaching supervision and quality monitoring system. It strictly regulates practical teaching aspects such as experiments, course design, and graduation theses, deepens the integration of industry and education and school-enterprise collaborative education, promotes teaching and learning through competitions, strengthens teaching skills and learning atmosphere, continuously improves teaching quality and the level of application-oriented talent education.



 

 


3. Student Affairs

The school adheres to the principle of fostering virtue through education, focusing on academic atmosphere development and supporting students' campus life as its core mission, comprehensively promoting high-quality development of student affairs. Academic atmosphere development is based on the characteristics of engineering disciplines, establishing professional clubs and scientific innovation teams, and regularly conducting "Shangxing Lecture", academic competitions, corporate lectures, and postgraduate entrance examination experience sharing sessions to promote learning through competition and research, creating an excellent academic atmosphere. Daily management is meticulous and standardized, strictly implementing attendance, dormitory visits, and evening roll call systems, and diligently handling matters such as financial aid and awards, medical insurance processing, and military recruitment publicity, wholeheartedly supporting students' campus life. Practical education has yielded remarkable results, conducting activities such as volunteer service, community practice, and environmental protection, enriching extracurricular activities, and enhancing social responsibility. Employment and further education services are precisely targeted, holding employment mobilization meetings and special recruitment fairs, deepening school-enterprise cooperation, and visiting companies to expand job opportunities, helping graduates achieve high-quality employment and further education. The school empowers students in an all-round and multi-dimensional way, striving to build a talent education system of "a solid academic atmosphere as the foundation, empowerment through practice, and heartwarming service," and endeavoring to educate well-rounded engineering talents for the new era.



 

 

 

4. Facilities and Laboratories

The school places great emphasis on cultivating students' practical abilities and has therefore constructed a comprehensive system of teaching equipment and facilities to create a high-quality practical teaching environment for students. The school currently has 27 teaching and innovative experimental practice rooms, including a provincial-level experimental teaching center, a space for start-ups, a digital creative practice center, and multiple professional experimental (training) rooms (including laboratories and training rooms jointly built by the school and enterprises).

5. Research Achievements

The school's research work closely revolves around regional economic development and industrial needs, committed to promoting innovative exploration and applied technological innovation. The school has established a core research system encompassing Computer Science and Technology, Network Engineering, Digital Media Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Internet of Things Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence, forming stable and distinctive research directions. The faculty team has been deeply engaged in academic research, producing a number of high-quality academic papers published in important domestic and international academic journals and conferences. The school highly values the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, actively undertaking and participating in research projects at all levels, promoting the transformation of research results, and effectively serving the upgrading of the local information technology industry. By building research platforms and forming innovative teams, the school continuously fosters a strong academic atmosphere, constantly enhancing its overall research strength and social service capabilities, providing dedicated support for training high-quality applied talents.


 


6. Competition Achievements

The school emphasizes the cultivation of students' comprehensive qualities, focusing on the coordinated development of their knowledge, abilities, and character. It fosters students' scientific research and innovation capabilities and actively organizes them to participate in scientific research, academic competitions, and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, achieving outstanding results. In the past three years, students have won over 300 provincial-level awards and 77 national-level awards in professional academic competitions (National Undergraduate Computer Design Competition, National Undergraduate Advertising Art Competition, Network Technology Challenge, National School Digital Competition, and Lanqiao Cup National Software and Information Technology Professional Talent Competition) in fields such as Network Engineering, Information Security, Computer Software, and Digital Media Technology.



 

 


7. Future perspective

The school will closely follow the national "New Engineering" initiative, focusing on the needs of the digital economy industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and continuously deepen the integration of industry and education, as well as collaborative talent cultivation between universities and enterprises. In the future, it will prioritize the transformation and upgrading of majors such as Computer Science and Technology, Network Engineering, Digital Media Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Internet of Things Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. It will create a number of high-level practical platforms integrating teaching, training, and research, striving to educate interdisciplinary talents with an international perspective, innovative spirit, and solid practical abilities.
Simultaneously, the school will further strengthen faculty development and scientific research innovation, promote the optimization of its disciplinary and professional structure, achieve precise alignment between talent cultivation and industry needs, and strive to enhance its educational level and social influence, providing strong intellectual and technical support for regional economic and social development.
