About US
Established in 2012, the School of Foreign Studies was formed through the merger of the former Foreign Languages Department and English Education Center. As one of the college’s key secondary schools, we currently offer six undergraduate programs: English, Business English, Translation, Japanese, Spanish, and Preschool Education. Additionally, we provide college foreign language courses (English and Japanese) for 40 non-language majors.
Our vibrant academic community comprises approximately 2,100 students and 198 faculty and staff members. Among our Chinese faculty, 39 hold professorial or associate professorial ranks. We are privileged to host 40 international faculty members from nearly 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Spain, Argentina, and South Africa. Approximately half of our international faculty hold master’s or doctoral degrees. Additionally, 46 Chinese faculty members (32.4%) have earned industry certifications such as Senior International Trade Specialist, Cross-Border E-Commerce Specialist, and Overseas Live Streaming Operations Manager, designated as "Dual-Qualified" faculty who bridge academic expertise and professional practice.
International Faculty Excellence
Our school boasts a highly internationalized faculty. With nearly 40 foreign teachers annually, we rank among the top colleges and universities in Guangdong Province in terms of foreign faculty numbers. This diverse team not only delivers spoken and content courses for language majors but also provides oral language courses for non-language majors across the college. Notably, our oral English classes maintain an exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio of 15-18 students per class—a rare practice in Chinese higher education.
Beyond their teaching responsibilities, our international faculty enrich campus life through language corners, cultural workshops, and extracurricular programs in English, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean, including World Geography and Cultures, Leadership, and Public Speaking. This immersive international environment cultivates authentic language proficiency and cross-cultural competence essential for global engagement.
Industry-Integrated Education
We pride ourselves on deep industry-education integration, exceptional graduate employment rates and industry collaboration. Our programs align closely with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's demand for internationalized industries and bilingual education. We focus on cultivating internationally-oriented, interdisciplinary talents through four key tracks:
Foreign Languages + Cross-Border E-Commerce
Foreign Languages + Foreign-Related Rule of Law
Foreign Languages + International New Media
Foreign Languages + AI-Assisted Education
Strategic Partnerships: For years, we have maintained robust collaborations with giants such as the China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), Alibaba, China Beststudy Education Group, iFLYTEK, the Council of Japan International Educational Organization (for Japan programs), and Western Exchange (for US programs). We have also established over 20 stable domestic and overseas internship and employment bases.
Career Outcomes:Through intensive industry immersion, our students acquire practical expertise in international trade, cross-border e-commerce, and bilingual education, while building professional networks that facilitate priority employment opportunities. Consequently, our employment rate has consistently exceeded 95% (3-5 percentage points above the national average for schools of foreign languages), reaching a high of 97.3% in 2025.
Research & Funding: Our robust industry partnerships generate approximately 1 million RMB annually in collaborative research funding, ensuring our curriculum remains tightly coupled with market demands.
Global Partnerships
We prioritize global engagement, offering pathways for overseas study:
UK: 3+1 Bachelor-to-Master programs with the University of Huddersfield and University of the West of England.
South Korea: Undergraduate exchange and bachelor-to-master credit recognition programs with Hoseo University.
Spain: Language testing centers and bachelor-to-master credit recognition programs with the University of Zaragoza and University of Murcia.
These programs provide structured pathways for students to pursue graduate studies abroad and enhance their international qualifications.
Academic Achievements
Academic Excellence: In 2012, our English Language and Literature program was designated a Key Cultivation Discipline by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. In 2019, Business English was approved among the first Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Programs.
Research Output: Over the past three years, we have undertaken 222 research projects, published 217 academic papers, and secured over 2 million RMB in funding. In July 2023, we hosted the Academic Symposium on Discipline Construction of Foreign Languages and Literature in the Greater Bay Area. High-level academic forums and lectures have strengthened the academic atmosphere and broadened the research horizons of our faculty.
