I. Program Overview
The Painting Program is a first-class undergraduate program in Guangdong Province (including top-up bachelor's degree), featuring the national first-class undergraduate course "Lacquer Painting," and has been awarded the Second Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award for the project "One Core, Three Pathways: Exploration and Practice of Guangdong Lacquer Art Heritage Talent Cultivation System." Grounded in the cultural industry development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and leveraging Guangdong's profound lacquer art tradition and contemporary art innovation environment, the program is dedicated to cultivating high-quality art talents with solid painting skills, innovative thinking, and practical application capabilities.
As a first-class undergraduate program in Guangdong Province, the Painting Program has developed distinctive educational features in integrating traditional lacquer art heritage with contemporary art education. Student works have repeatedly achieved excellent results in national and provincial fine art exhibitions, demonstrating the program's outstanding teaching quality and talent cultivation effectiveness.
II. Program Objectives
This program cultivates patriotic, Party-loving citizens with firm ideals and convictions, law-abiding behavior, and good moral character. It primarily trains application-oriented talents needed for the frontline of creation, design, management, and services in art-related industries in Guangdong Province, equipping students with knowledge, capabilities, and competencies in fine arts and design, innovative spirit, and entrepreneurial awareness, and enabling all-round development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.
Graduates are qualified to work in art creation and design, art planning and management, and fine arts education at art and design enterprises, cultural and art institutions, and education and training industries. They possess the ability for continuous learning and professional development, and can adapt to the ever-evolving demands of the cultural and art industry.
III. Program Tracks
1. Art Education Track
This track cultivates art education talents for primary and secondary schools and social art education, equipped with solid painting skills and systematic educational theory knowledge. Students will systematically study core subjects including educational principles, art teaching methodology, and curriculum design, and master art teaching skills for all age groups from children to adults, enabling them to engage in art teaching and research at schools, training institutions, and public cultural institutions.
2. Digital Painting Track
Adapting to the new trends of artistic creation in the digital age, this track cultivates composite art talents who master digital painting techniques and AIGC tool applications. Students will study cutting-edge courses including graphic and image processing, digital illustration, AI painting and generative art, and animation design, and will be qualified for digital content creation, game art design, new media art, and other related fields.
3. Art Planning and Management Track
Addressing the management needs of the cultural and art industry, this track cultivates versatile talents with art appreciation capabilities, curatorial practice skills, and project management abilities. Students will study courses such as art planning and marketing, art market research, and AI digital exhibition design application, and will be able to engage in art planning, exhibition operations, and cultural industry management at art museums, galleries, and cultural media institutions.
IV. Core Curriculum
The curriculum of the Painting Program encompasses four modules: modeling fundamentals, program core, digital technology, and practical application. Specifically:
● Modeling Fundamentals Module: Artistic Modeling Expression, Chinese Painting, Oil Painting, Lacquer Painting
● Digital Technology Module: Graphic and Image Processing, AIGC Art Design and Application, Digital Illustration, AI Painting and Generative Art, AI Digital Exhibition Design Application
● Educational Theory Module: Pedagogy, Art Planning and Marketing
● Practical Application Module: Animation Design, Art Market Research, etc.
Among these, the Lacquer Painting course is a national first-class undergraduate course and one of the most distinctive core courses of this program, inheriting and carrying forward the exquisite techniques and cultural connotations of Guangdong lacquer art.
V. Faculty
The Painting Program currently has 21 full-time faculty members, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 4 doctoral degree holders (including those currently enrolled), 7 lecturers, and 10 young faculty members. The faculty structure is well-balanced with profound academic backgrounds. Most faculty members graduated from prestigious art institutions such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, and Nanjing University of the Arts, possessing high teaching standards and strong research and creative capabilities.
VI. Teaching and Research Facilities
The Painting Program is equipped with laboratories for three tracks: lacquer painting, oil painting, and Chinese painting, providing excellent hardware support for students' program study and creative practice:
● Guangdong Lacquer Art Heritage Hall Digital Learning Space: 1 room, inheriting the essence of Guangdong lacquer art and integrating digital teaching methods
● Lacquer Painting Production Laboratory and Lacquer Painting Creation Studio: 6 rooms, equipped with complete lacquer painting production equipment and materials
● Oil Painting Laboratory: 5 rooms, equipped with professional easels, lighting equipment, and creative tools
● Chinese Painting Laboratory: 5 rooms, providing complete facilities for traditional Chinese painting creation
